NAIHATI, WEST BENGAL: In a significant development ahead of Kali Puja 2026, the iconic Boro Maa Temple in Naihati has introduced a new tagline, replacing its long-familiar message, “Dhormo Jar Jar, Boroma Sobar” (Every religion has its own identity, but Boro Maa belongs to everyone), with “Boromaye Bhakti, Sanataner Shakti” (Devotion to Boro Maa, Strength of Sanatan).
The new slogan has already been displayed at the temple premises, marking a notable change in the identity associated with one of West Bengal's most recognised Kali Puja celebrations. The announcement has attracted considerable attention, with devotees and members of the public expressing different opinions about the decision.
According to the temple committee, the change was made following repeated requests from devotees, religious organisations and people from different parts of the state. Committee representatives have maintained that the decision reflects the sentiments of devotees and was not influenced by the recent political change in West Bengal.
Naihati MLA Sumitra Chattopadhyay has also maintained that the decision has no political connection, stating that local residents had been requesting a tagline reflecting Sanatan traditions for quite some time.
However, the announcement has generated mixed reactions among devotees. While some have welcomed the new slogan, others believe the previous tagline carried a broader message of inclusivity and reflected the universal appeal of Boro Maa.
The change comes at a time when preparations are underway for the 103rd year of Naihati's famous Boro Maa Kali Puja. Every year, the celebration attracts devotees from across West Bengal and other parts of the country, making it one of the region's most prominent religious gatherings.
With the new tagline now officially in place, the decision has become a major talking point ahead of this year's Kali Puja, bringing renewed public attention to the temple's traditions, identity and long-standing association with devotees.
