Siliguri, August 25, 2026: A newly restored conference hall, “Srijan Sabhagarh,” was inaugurated at the Income Tax Department office in Matigara, Siliguri, on Tuesday, providing the department with a dedicated space for meetings, conferences and public awareness programmes.
The facility was inaugurated by Smt. Surbhi Verma Garg, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal and Sikkim, who unveiled the plaque and formally opened the hall through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The programme began with a traditional welcome of the guests, followed by the National Anthem and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Shri Rajiv Kumar, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Siliguri, delivered the welcome address. Addressing the gathering, Smt. Surbhi Verma Garg highlighted the importance of proper infrastructure for conducting official meetings, conferences, training sessions and taxpayer awareness programmes.
Dr. T. Ramalingam, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Siliguri, delivered the vote of thanks.
Following the main programme, officials proceeded to Wing B on the first floor, where the plaque of Srijan Sabhagarh was unveiled. The visiting officials also inspected the newly restored conference hall, departmental premises and residential quarters.
A tree plantation programme was also organised as part of the visit.
The conference facility had remained in poor condition for a considerable period and required restoration. With the renovation now complete, the hall is expected to serve as an important venue for departmental meetings, conferences, taxpayer outreach and other official programmes.
Speaking to the media, senior Income Tax Department officials said the upgraded facility would make it easier to organise meetings and public interaction programmes in a more comfortable and organised environment.
The programme was attended by Smt. Surbhi Verma Garg, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal and Sikkim; Shri Rajiv Kumar, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Siliguri; and Dr. T. Ramalingam, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Siliguri, among other officials.
