Siliguri, September 24, 2026: Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital is set to introduce robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery in Siliguri, marking a significant development in technology-enabled orthopaedic treatment in North Bengal.
The hospital will conduct its first robotic knee replacement surgery using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, bringing advanced surgical technology closer to patients in North Bengal and neighbouring regions. The initiative is aimed at providing access to modern joint replacement procedures locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to major metropolitan cities for specialised treatment.
The milestone will be highlighted through a programme on September 24 at 1:30 PM at the New Seminar Hall, New Building Basement, Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital, Siliguri.
The expert panel will include Dr. Sanjib Sarkar, Facility Director, along with Dr. Sabyasachi Ghosh, Dr. Vishal Pakhrin, and Dr. Vikas Modi, all serving as Lead Consultants in Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgery.
The VELYS™ system is designed to assist surgeons with personalised surgical planning based on a patient's individual knee anatomy. It also provides real-time intraoperative guidance to support precise bone resections and implant positioning.
Another key feature is its assistance in maintaining appropriate soft-tissue balance and joint alignment during surgery. The technology is designed to work under the control of the operating surgeon, supporting clinical expertise rather than replacing the surgeon's role.
According to the hospital, potential patient benefits may include greater consistency in implant positioning, real-time feedback during the procedure and potentially faster rehabilitation and return to active mobility, depending on individual patient factors, health conditions and anatomy.
The programme will begin with lunch, followed by a press conference and expert discussion. Media representatives will also have an opportunity to interact with the specialists regarding robotic-assisted surgery, patient expectations, clinical outcomes and the future of robotic orthopaedics in North Bengal.
The introduction of this technology represents an expansion of advanced orthopaedic treatment options available to patients in the region.
