Siliguri, September 23, 2026:
Siliguri Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a theft case reported from the Khalpara area and recovered a substantial amount of cash allegedly linked to the incident.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Raj Choudhury alias Banta, a resident of Hemanta Basu Colony, Ward No. 4, under Siliguri Police Station. He was arrested on September 21, 2026, following an investigation into the theft.
The case was registered at Siliguri Police Station as Case No. 601/26 dated September 18, 2026, under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said that during the period of police custody, the investigating officer conducted further questioning and investigation, which led to the recovery of ₹6,15,000 in cash from the accused's residence.
The recovered money is being treated as part of the stolen amount connected with the case. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the theft and determine whether any other persons were involved.
The arrested accused will be dealt with according to the applicable legal procedure as the investigation progresses.
