The Siliguri Hindi High School Sports Academy was formally inaugurated on Sunday at Siliguri Hindi High School, marking a new initiative aimed at encouraging sporting talent among students. The programme was organised by the SRT Welfare Foundation and witnessed the presence of several ministers, an MP and other distinguished guests.
West Bengal Education Minister Dipak Barman attended the programme as the chief guest. Darjeeling Member of Parliament Raju Bista, Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Siliguri MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh, Finance and Transport Minister Anandamay Barman, and Law Minister Adv. Biraj Biswas were among the guests of honour at the event.
The programme was also attended by Bhagwati Prasad Dalmia, Secretary of Siliguri Hindi High School, and Jayanta Saha, former Chairman of Borough Committee 4 and former Councillor of Ward No. 25.
The newly inaugurated sports academy has been envisioned as a platform where students can pursue sports, develop their abilities and gain greater opportunities to demonstrate their skills. The initiative seeks to strengthen the role of sports alongside education and encourage young students to participate actively in sporting activities.
A sports and cultural programme was also held as part of the inauguration. The cultural segment featured a bhajan performance by Together Out Loud, followed by the distribution of Prasad.
The event brought together members of the education community, elected representatives and other stakeholders, highlighting the importance of sports and cultural activities in creating opportunities for students and supporting their overall development.
