With Durga Puja approaching, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have stepped up security preparations across the city and appealed to residents to remain cautious while using social media.
Police have specifically requested people not to share photographs, videos or posts indicating that their homes will remain empty while they travel for the Puja holidays. Such information, if made publicly available, could potentially alert criminals that a house is unattended.
Siliguri Metropolitan Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza urged citizens to exercise caution and cooperate with the police during the festive season. The appeal comes as police intensify patrolling and surveillance across different parts of Siliguri to prevent theft, robbery and other criminal activities.
According to police, security arrangements are being strengthened at key locations, while additional attention is being given to residential areas, crowded zones and other sensitive points.
The police have also advised residents to avoid sharing sensitive details about their travel plans or the period for which their homes will remain unoccupied.
Citizens have been encouraged to stay alert, follow official advisories and report any suspicious activity to the police. The broader security measures are aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful Durga Puja across Siliguri.
