Kolkata: People planning to stock up on liquor ahead of Durga Puja may have to spend more this year. Liquor prices in West Bengal are set to be revised from October 1, 2026, according to the latest pricing exercise by the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation Limited (WBSBCL).
The new pricing process covers foreign liquor, Indian-made liquor and beer. Under the exercise, liquor products will have to be registered afresh under the revised pricing structure, including brands whose prices may ultimately remain unchanged.
The move comes just ahead of the Durga Puja season, traditionally a period when liquor sales increase across the state. The revised pricing is also being viewed as part of efforts to increase state revenue from the excise sector.
However, consumers may have to wait for the final price list to know exactly how much their preferred brands will cost. The specific increase per bottle or the percentage hike for individual brands has not yet been clearly announced. Some products could also see no change in their prices.
A meeting between liquor manufacturers, suppliers and officials was held at the WBSBCL headquarters on September 3, following the Expression of Interest process. The new pricing and registration framework is scheduled to take effect from October 1.
With Durga Puja approaching, the revised rates are likely to be closely watched by both consumers and the liquor trade. The exact impact on individual brands will become clearer once the new MRP list is released.
