West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has assured devotees that Chhath Puja celebrations across the state will be facilitated without unnecessary restrictions, following the approach adopted during Durga Puja.
The assurance comes as preparations intensify for the upcoming festival, which is celebrated with devotion by thousands of families across West Bengal. Devotees traditionally gather along riverbanks, ponds and designated ghats to offer prayers to the Sun God.
The state government has also begun reviewing arrangements for the festive season, with particular attention to public safety, crowd management and emergency preparedness. On October 28, 2026, the Chief Minister reviewed preparations for several festivals, including Chhath Puja, Kali Puja and Jagaddhatri Puja. Officials were directed to strengthen security arrangements and identify potentially dangerous locations, especially vulnerable riverbanks and crowded ghats.
The administration is expected to coordinate with district officials, police personnel and other relevant departments to ensure that devotees can participate in the celebrations peacefully.
Chhath Puja is observed with traditional rituals, including fasting, offerings and prayers at sunrise and sunset. Proper arrangements at ghats, adequate lighting, crowd control and emergency support remain important for the safe conduct of the festival.
The government's stated focus on maintaining a peaceful festive atmosphere will be significant for devotees preparing to celebrate Chhath Puja across West Bengal.
