Siliguri: Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT), a unit of the Techno India Group, celebrated its 27th Foundation Day on September 19, 2026, with a series of sporting, academic and cultural programmes at its campus.
As part of the celebrations, the institute organised a 10-km road race titled “Run for Green Siliguri”, starting from Baghajatin Park and concluding at the SIT campus. The event was aimed at encouraging participation in sports while promoting the message of a greener Siliguri among residents.
Around 500 athletes participated in the race, with strong participation from students aged 15 years and above. The event was flagged off at 6 am in the presence of distinguished guests.
In the competition, Mr. Mukesh Kumar from Bhopal secured the first position by completing the 10-km race in 28.45 minutes. He received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and the Champions Trophy. Mr. Arjun Tudu from Jamshedpur finished second and received Rs. 30,000 along with a trophy, while Mr. Suraj Kumar Pal from Uttar Pradesh secured third place with Rs. 20,000 and a trophy.
A special “Mou Roychowdury Appreciation Award”, carrying a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and a trophy, was awarded to Ms. Soni Devi from Uttar Pradesh, who completed the race in 37.53 minutes.
Among the distinguished guests present at the sporting event were Mr. Jose Barreto, legendary football player and coach; Mr. Deepankar Arora, Youth Icon of Darjeeling District; Mr. Sibnath Ganguly, Vice-President of Baghajatin Athletic Club; Mr. Jayanata Bhowmik, eminent cricket coach; Dr. Joydeep Dutta, Principal, SIT; and Dr. Arundhati Chakrabarti, Vice-Principal, SIT.
The Foundation Day celebrations also featured the Mou Roychowdhury Academic Excellence & Appreciation Award 2026 ceremony. The awards were organised in memory of Mrs. Mou Roychowdhury, Co-chairperson of Techno India Group, and recognised all 61 toppers from different programmes for their performance in the Even Semester Examinations 2026.
Mr. Mithun Roy, Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Engineering, received the Best Faculty Award for his contributions to research. Special Contribution Awards were presented to Dr. Debojyoti Mishra, Assistant Professor & HOD, ECE, and Dr. Jayanta Bhushan Basu, Associate Professor & OSD Examination, for their contributions to the institute's overall development.
Mr. Kallol Dutta and Mr. Pinaki Sarkar were honoured with Best Administrative Staff awards. Appreciation awards were also presented to support staff members and security personnel for their dedication and commitment to the institution.
The celebrations further included exhibitions featuring student projects, photocopy work, art and craft. Students were given an opportunity to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas, with the best exhibitors receiving tokens of appreciation.
A Parents Day programme was also held at the conclusion of the award ceremony, where parents and guardians participated in songs and elocution performances for the audience.
The award ceremony was attended by Prof. (Dr) Buddhadeb Sau, former Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University; Mr. Abhijit Mukherjee, Chief Operating Officer and OSD to the Chancellor, TIG Universities; Mr. Jose Barreto, legendary footballer; Dr. Joydeep Dutta, Principal, Siliguri Institute of Technology; Mrs. Padma Yolmo, Himalayan Nursing College & School; Dr. Arundhati Chakrabarti, Vice-Principal, SIT; and Mr. Anindya Basu, Principal-In-Charge, SIT Diploma College.
The 27th Foundation Day celebrations brought together students, faculty members, athletes, parents and distinguished guests, combining sporting activities with academic recognition and community-focused initiatives.
