Islampur, August 08, 2026 : A primary school teacher was seriously injured after allegedly being shot by miscreants while he was on his way to school on Saturday morning. The incident took place in the Madaripur area of Islampur, creating tension among local residents.
The injured teacher has been identified as Nazrul Islam, a teacher at Rajavim Primary School in Ramganj.
According to local sources, Nazrul Islam had left his home for school as usual. When he reached the Madaripur area, unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire at him. He sustained bullet injuries and fell on the road.
Local residents immediately rescued him and took him to Islampur Sub-Divisional Hospital. Hospital sources said his condition was critical. After receiving initial treatment, he was shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri for further treatment.
Following the incident, police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are trying to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify those responsible for the attack.
The incident has sparked concern and tension in the area.
Nazrul Islam’s wife, Roksana Khatun, said that her husband had left home for school as usual. The family later received information that he had been injured. She claimed that he had no known bad relationship or enmity with anyone.
Another relative, MD Bilal, described Nazrul Islam as an educated person who was not involved in political activities. He questioned why the teacher was targeted and seriously injured.
Police investigation into the shooting is currently underway.
