Kolkata: West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose was rushed to a private hospital near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata on Friday night after suddenly experiencing chest pain and uneasiness.
According to Assembly officials and family sources, Bose had attended several programmes at the state Assembly during the day, including events marking Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. He also carried out other official engagements before returning home.
Soon after reaching his residence, Bose reportedly developed severe chest discomfort. His family members immediately took him to a hospital, where doctors conducted several medical examinations and began treatment.
His condition is currently described as stable, and he remains under medical observation.
Rathindra Bose is the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and a BJP MLA from the Cooch Behar South constituency. He entered the Assembly for the first time after winning the 2026 West Bengal elections. He was subsequently elected Speaker of the House in May 2026. Bose is a chartered accountant by profession.
The news of the Speaker's hospitalisation has drawn attention across West Bengal as he continues to remain under doctors' observation.
