New Delhi: Mankind Pharma has announced a financial contribution of ₹1 crore to Captain Smit Machchhar and his family, acknowledging the Indian pilot's actions during the serious mid-air emergency involving Flydubai flight FZ1073.
Captain Machchhar was reportedly seriously injured during an incident inside the cockpit while the aircraft was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30, 2026. Despite sustaining injuries, he continued to respond to the emergency and helped ensure that the situation was brought under control. The aircraft was eventually diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.
Mankind Pharma said its contribution was intended as a gesture of gratitude for what it described as Captain Machchhar's courage, composure, leadership and sense of responsibility during the crisis. The company said his actions reflected a commitment to the safety of the passengers and crew.
Along with the financial contribution, the company also shared a letter from Rajeev Juneja, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mankind Pharma, praising the pilot's conduct during the emergency.
The incident involved 174 passengers and eight crew members, according to reports. Captain Machchhar's response has since received widespread recognition, including praise from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Captain Machchhar is continuing his recovery after the incident. The Federation of Indian Pilots has also requested that his actions be considered for an appropriate national bravery or civilian recognition, subject to verification by the competent authorities.
Mankind Pharma's announcement adds another public recognition of the pilot's conduct during one of the most serious moments of his aviation career.
