Dubai: Dubai Crown Prince, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot who was injured during a major mid-air incident involving a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
The visit took place as Captain Machchhar continues to recover from his injuries. According to reports, the pilot was attacked by his co-pilot inside the cockpit while operating Flydubai flight FZ1073 on September 30. Despite being injured, Machchhar managed to help bring the situation under control, after which the aircraft was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Following his meeting with the pilot, Sheikh Hamdan publicly expressed his appreciation for Machchhar's actions. He said the captain had demonstrated a high level of courage, responsibility and concern for human life.
The Dubai Crown Prince also conveyed the appreciation of the UAE leadership, saying Machchhar was a valued part of the country's story and represented its values of compassion, peace and respect for human life.
The incident has attracted international attention, with Indian and international leaders also acknowledging the pilot's actions. The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority has commended Captain Machchhar, the flight crew and passengers who helped bring the security situation under control. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
Captain Machchhar is currently receiving medical treatment in the UAE and has been reported to be recovering well.
The Crown Prince's hospital visit has further highlighted the international recognition surrounding the Indian pilot's response during the aviation emergency.
