West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a tax exemption for the upcoming film Ramayana, bringing encouraging news for moviegoers ahead of its much-awaited theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
The announcement was made during Vijayadashami celebrations in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 20, where members of the film’s cast and production team joined the festivities. According to reports, Adhikari confirmed that the film would receive tax-free status in West Bengal, placing it alongside several other films that he mentioned in his statement.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. Ravie Dubey will portray Lakshman.
The ambitious project has generated considerable anticipation among audiences, with its large-scale production and prominent cast attracting attention across the country.
The first instalment of Ramayana is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on November 5, 2026. The second part is planned for release during Diwali 2027.
With the tax-free announcement, the film is expected to draw additional interest from audiences in West Bengal. However, the precise impact on cinema ticket prices will depend on the applicable tax arrangements.
The decision adds another development to the film’s promotional journey as audiences prepare to experience the legendary story of Lord Rama on the big screen.
