Kolkata, October 12, 2026: The festive spirit of Durga Puja gained momentum in North Kolkata as West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari inaugurated the Durga Puja pandal at Tala Pratyay on Monday, marking the opening of one of the city's recognised puja venues.
During the inauguration, Adhikari emphasised the significance of preserving traditional religious practices and maintaining the spiritual essence of the festival. He also recited hymns and shlokas in praise of Goddess Durga, highlighting the religious significance associated with the celebrations.
The Chief Minister urged puja organisers to avoid unhealthy competition and focus on creating a welcoming, neighbourhood-oriented atmosphere for devotees and visitors. He also noted that the state administration, along with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the police, was working to facilitate smooth and orderly celebrations.
Tala Pratyay, located in North Kolkata, is among the city's popular Durga Puja destinations and attracts visitors during the annual festive season.
The inauguration comes as Kolkata prepares for several days of pandal visits, cultural activities and religious observances. With the opening of prominent puja venues, the city's festive atmosphere continues to build ahead of the main Durga Puja celebrations.
