KOLKATA, August 10, 2026 : A fresh instance of factional tension within the BJP has surfaced in Chhoyanabhi, where a clash between two rival groups left several people injured and triggered heightened police deployment in the area.
The incident took place on Sunday under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar South Police Station. According to sources, the dispute began over a football match and the use of a local ground.
One faction allegedly objected to the tournament being organised without permission to use the ground, which they claimed was under their control. The argument soon escalated into a physical confrontation.
Members of the BJP's "Adi" and "Nabya" factions allegedly confronted each other, with bamboo sticks and lathis reportedly used during the clash. Several people sustained injuries in the melee.
Following the incident, personnel from Bidhannagar South Police Station reached the spot and intervened to bring the situation under control.
Police have so far detained five people in connection with the clash. Further action is expected after the police examine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The situation remains tense in the area, with police increasing patrolling to prevent any further escalation.
The Chhoyanabhi incident has once again brought attention to factional differences within the BJP's local organisation in Bidhannagar, with rival groups reportedly at odds over local-level issues.
