Siliguri: Ahead of Durga Puja 2026, the West Bengal government’s financial assistance programme reached several community puja organisers in Siliguri, with representatives receiving cheques worth ₹1 lakh each.
The cheques were distributed by Shankar Ghosh, West Bengal’s Tourism Minister, to representatives of Durga Puja committees operating under the jurisdiction of Siliguri Police Station. Senior police officials and other prominent personalities were also present at the programme. The distribution was part of the state government’s financial support initiative for Durga Puja celebrations.
During the event, the minister extended his festive greetings to the organisers and wished them a joyful celebration. He also urged puja committees to work closely with the administration and police to maintain peace and order throughout the festival.
The police administration similarly appealed to residents and puja organisers to follow official guidelines and cooperate with the authorities. The appeal aims to ensure that the festivities proceed smoothly, with public safety and proper discipline remaining key priorities.
The financial assistance is intended to support eligible puja committees as they prepare for the annual festival, while cooperation between organisers, residents and the administration remains important for peaceful celebrations.
