According to reports, the incident took place at around 6 pm when Banerjee was leaving her residence to inaugurate a Durga Puja pandal in the Kalighat area. TMC leaders alleged that the woman approached the political leader in an aggressive manner and attempted to breach her security cordon.
Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen subsequently submitted a written complaint to the officer-in-charge of Kalighat Police Station. In her complaint, she reportedly identified the woman as Tannishtha Saha and alleged that she claimed to be a relative of Banerjee. The complaint also stated that a knife was found in the woman's possession.
TMC leaders questioned how the woman was able to approach a former chief minister who receives high-level security protection. Party representatives also called for the incident to be investigated, with questions being raised about the security arrangements around Banerjee.
According to media reports, TMC workers apprehended the woman and handed her over to the police. The allegations concerning the attempted attack, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the security arrangements require verification through the police investigation.
As of the latest reports available on Tuesday evening, the incident remained a developing story. The allegations made by TMC leaders should not be treated as established facts until independently verified by the investigating authorities.
