Guwahati: Assam is set to gain a major boost in railway connectivity as the proposed Delhi-Guwahati Bullet Train Corridor receives approval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the approval of the Northern High-Speed Rail Corridor, which will connect Delhi with major cities, including Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Siliguri and Guwahati.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the announcement, stating that the proposed high-speed service could reduce travel time between Delhi and Guwahati to less than eight hours.
The extension from Siliguri to Guwahati is expected to strengthen connectivity across Northeast India while creating opportunities for tourism, trade and investment.
However, detailed project planning, construction timelines and final costs are yet to be announced. The corridor remains a proposed infrastructure project, with further formal approvals and implementation steps required.
